5G, The Fifth Generation of Internet Connectivity
5G is the latest generation in Internet Connectivity and at the moment is being rolled out in the UK. It promises quicker download speeds than the previous Internet Connections before with the 2G,3G and 4G, capable of many things within the bandwidth.
5G is here, but it won’t really flourish onand until the network is built out. 5G signals will not travel far and needs a more dense network so as not to drop the signal. 5G brings the reincarnation of the automobile making self driving cars a probability when the science is perfected.
It will be unlikely to connect with a 4G antenna and there will be 5G relay boxes on most roadside lampposts and telegraph poles. This may look unsightly but we will get used to it when we see what the benefits are. The reason 5G needs so many cellular antennas, or “small cells”, is because it often uses higher frequency radio waves that have vast data capacity, but short range. It promises the world. Apart from self drivable cars, robots will be able to perform routine operations and anything that’s repetitive and not too complicated will be likely to being substituted by robots, operated by 5G.
Extend this to collecting fares on trains, or ticket free travel, already in action with the Oyster Card and direct payment with credit/debit cards and even driverless trains with cctv and signalling systems to operate by robot. When you think of it it’s a natural progression but it might not go down so well with the inevitable employment cuts and respective Unions.
